Pinks All Grown Up

Personally, pink is not even close to being one of my favorite colors. However, I hate it when women and men are demeaned for loving this color. Out of all of the colors out there, pink is one of the most gendered colors. And it tends to be associated with femininity and softness. Although, no color should be gendered, there is nothing wrong with being associated with femininity and softness. Softness and femininity don't equate to weakness. My little sister's favorite might be pink but her favorite color in no way defines who she is and the wide variety of things she's into. My sister loves action figures and video games just as much as she loves her dolls and tea-time. In that same way, women and men can love the color pink and be nurturing and kind without being perceived as inferior.

Poem on Feminsm

I know it's been quite a while since I last posted but College and work have had me so busy! I decided to post this poem  because the other day I got in an argument with one of my family members on feminism and he wouldn't listen to what I had to say. In fact, all he kept repeating over and over again is that all feminists want to do is demean men. So here's a poem he probably will never read but regardless it's out there.

DEAR BROTHER

You say I am attacking all men
But in the same way that you loudly proclaim
not all men
Whenever any injusitice committed against women
resurfaces
Not all men are being attacked
No, brother, I speak for our mother's smile
that get's sadder year after year
I speak for our sister
and the fact that at any moment, she could lose
the wonder in her eyes
I speak for my inability to walk home alone at night
because even though I know
I am more likely to victimized by someone I know
I can't help being afraid of the strangers
lurking behind the shadows
I speak for my friends
who don't get paid as much as their male counterparts
I speak for the women, and young girls
who have been ripped of their innocence
I speak for the girls, murdered ruthlessly
simply becaue they said
no
Or because they are blamed for the hurt
someone else commited against their bodies, souls, and minds
I speak because as a woman, my worth is based on my sexuality
I speak because my worth is based on my ability to carry a child
I speak because my worth is based on my wifely abilities
I speak for the women who choose to never marry
and are harshly judged for this
I speak for the stay-at home mothers,
belittled for their choice to stay at home
I speak for the batterd wife, girlfriend, partner
and yes, I speak for the battered men as well
I speak for the men who stand by our sides
I speak for the men bullied for embraicing their feminity
I speak for the men suffering through depression,
the ones who chose to seek help,
and the ones too ashamed to seek help
And brother, I speak for you, so that one day
you may live in a world where you are allowed
to cry and nurture others
without being shamed for it

Best Friends

Best friends can come and go, and although they are harder to find, they always arrive just when you need them in your life. They're those people that are your type of crazy and have your back no matter what. They don't judge you because they just get you. You can talk with them for hours and hours about nonsense and important things just the same. And even if you spend days without talking it doesn't change your friendship or the facility in which you can start talking to each other. You can be chatty or quiet around them and you still enjoy eachother's company. They are the family that you did get to choose.
This doesn't mean that they'll never let you down, they are human after all. What it means is that when they do let you down you will still love them because there are thousands of others times when they stood by you and didn't let you down. In fact, there are times when your best friend has known you better than any significant other that you've ever had. Just remember that although it is a lot of fun to laugh at your best friend and their antics it is important to let them know how much they mean to you. Because even if you end up losing them, you will forever be connected to them in all of the memories that you made together.
:Dgoals.
